Dear Mark,

Of course, SDA and SCL wires must not touch each other or the other eeprom legs!

Micrograbbers ain't so good for the 14 pin 24RF08 because the gap between the legs is too short. You must use some sewing needles for probes. Solder each needle at the end od SDA and SCL wires and insulate them with some tape. Here is an example:
http://www.allservice.ro/forum/images/probes.jpg

1. Read the tutorial (first post here). Pay attention to command parameters: /x /d /i
Like Bob mentioned the command is: r24rf08 file.bin /x /d /i

2. Turn on the T22. Clip the GND wire to the screw holders on T22's VGA connector. Wait until T22 shows the SVP prompt and is idle (HD led off) then touch SDA and SCL pins with the probes and launch the reader. You may need to keep the laptop horizontally to see the screen and operate the "pacient"

Here is the eeprom legs, just in case.

Altough is an easy job, if you get into more trouble then open a separate thread or better email at support-at-allservice-dot-ro and I will try to guide you myself.

Hi Victor

First I want to thank you for your excellent tutorial and for your kindness in sharing this info.

I retrieved the data from the eeprom of my X61S and obtained a 1024 bytes file but I cant figure out the password string when using IBMpass 2.1 Lite

The hex string from position 0x338 does not translate into anything understandable neither with classic nor alternate scancode.

Is my eeprom encrypted in some other way? Can I mail it to figure it out ?

Thank you very much

VICTOR YOU DA MAN!!!
U = Very Happy + Cool

Using your tutorial I was able to successfully read the data from the eeprom on my R61 Rev. 8933-CTO IT WAS AWESOME.

At first I had trouble getting it to work because I had to find and get all
the components from scrap electronics. I also had no wire to speak of so i had to make do with what I could get from the scrap pieces.

Now I am running in to trouble because the data I retrieved from the eeprom isn't translating into any usable passwords at 0x338 or 0x340
using any of the scancodes in IBM Pass Lite.

Basically same problem as the guy above me (aka regis) and so I am going to email you the dump I got and hopefully you can help me out.

THANKS!!!

Hi Victor

First I want to thank you for your excellent tutorial and your kindness for sharing this info.

I used your tutorial and software download package to successfully retrieve the supervisor password for a IBM T42 laptop that I bought off ebay.
I built the simple circuit and drove it from an old HP desktop that we use for the web.

The circuit was very easy to build with all the parts available from our local RadioShack store at an inexpensive price.

Your "Circuit Tester" program helped me determine that several of my small desktop computers did not have enough voltage at their COM ports to drive the simple circuit.

My only problem was soldering onto the eprom. After looking at it with my tired old eyes, I got an younger expert to solder a couple of small wires on it for $10 US.

After that, your instructions worked like a champ.
The now erased T42 password was GREED.

Thanks again for your excellent instructions and processing software.
Reading in this forum that others had done this successfully gave me the courage to try it myself.

You helped me turn an expensive brick into a nice functioning laptop.

Excellent work, Well Done....
You're the MAN...
